An essay from an energetic Dartmouth College student, an innovative police officer working the thankless beat of the New York City Subway, and a bucket load of determination between the two made for a good combination and with that the birth of a rescue squad that earned respect across the country: The NYC Transit Police Emergency Medical Rescue Unit.

Formed in the fall of 1977, I’d always wanted to know the exact story, well with Sergeant Joe Sede, I got it and what a story it is and what a show it was as I got to profiled this innovator for Volume 35 of The E-Men: Inside The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit.
