You want to be an E-Cop? Nowadays you’ll have a whole 9 months to prove yourself. Back in 1998 when John Scrivani was eager to join the unit, the course at the iconic Floyd Bennett Field was 6 months. Half a year to observe, half a year to learn.

And learn he did. When you see what he’s contributed to the public safety landscape across the years, the ESU imprint isn’t too hard to see. And it all started 25 years ago in 1998 for what was the most rewarding moment in a career full of them.

I’m very happy I finally got to profile the Sergeant for Volume 36 of The E-Men: Inside The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit!

Outro Song: Rush – Working Man (1974)
