She has had an extensive career in journalism spanning over two decades. After graduating with a degree in English from Rutgers in 1999, she began her professional journey with the Trenton Times, covering local news and the Hamilton school board. In 2003, she joined the Boston Globe, where she reported on the suburbs south of Boston, and later took on various roles including general assignment reporter, the Boston Police Department beat, court reporting, and being part of the Spotlight Team. Her investigative work with the Spotlight Team on the treatment of people with mental health problems in Massachusetts was a Pulitzer finalist. In 2019, she joined the New York Times, initially working on the breaking news desk and then the Travel section. Since February 2023, she has been covering the NYPD. And that is Maria Cramer
