FDNY Training Chief on A Full Circle Tribute To A Fallen Friend

Out of the darkest of times, come the most uplifting stories. After the tragic events of 9/11, FDNY Rescue 4, like the rest of the department, was reeling.

Among the special operations unit’s many casualties was Firefighter Durell “Bronko” Pearsall. A lineman player with the department’s football team, a bagpiper, and so much more, he died a hero on 9/11, but he was a hero too in how he lived.

This story by Chief Michael V. Meyers on an enduring full circle tribute to a fallen friend, is easily among the very best I’ve had the good fortune to hear. My thanks to him for a wonderful episode and may we never guys like Bronko for what they did that day.
