In a special episode combining the miniseries The E-Men: Inside The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit & The Best of The Bravest: Interviews With The FDNY’s Elite, retired members of both the FDNY & NYPD Emergency Service Unit join the program as we revisit the 1991 Union Square Derailment which injured hundreds passengers and killed five.

Truth be told, I’ve always wanted to do a show like this and finally I get to. Being the police and fire department buff that I am I’ve always looked to find ways to mesh both together in one show.

The incident that’ll allow me to do that is one that turns 32 years old today and Tuesday night will be revisited by me and some of the men who were there. August 28, 1991, was a typical late summer day that quickly turned tragic when the 4 Lexington Avenue Express Train operated by intoxicated motorman Robert Ray, derailed upon entering the 14th Street Union Square Station, killing 5 and injuring hundreds.

One of New York City’s most notorious incidents, I’ll be joined by members of the FDNY and NYPD Emergency Service Unit who were there as they’ll recount their first hand experience. Representing the FDNY will be returning guest Mike Pena, then assigned to FDNY Rescue 2. Representing The NYPD Emergency Service Unit will be two other returning guests, Rick Martinez and Patrick E Pogan, then assigned to Emergency Squads 3 (Bronx) and 2 (Harlem) respectively, for a special episode titled ‘The Best of Both Badges’ revisiting the tragic and game changing 1991 Union Square Derailment. The episode airs live on my YouTube channel at 7PM EST and can be watched via the link provided below.
