This week on Mic’d In New Haven, my guest is Mike Chanat — a public safety veteran whose career has taken him through nearly every side of emergency response.

Starting with the Brooklyn College Emergency Medical Squad in 1987, Mike became an EMT and later a paramedic before joining the NYPD with the goal of eventually working rescue with Emergency Service. Along the way, his career placed him at the intersection of policing and emergency medicine during major incidents including the Sugar Hill Club shooting, the DeKalb Avenue subway derailment, the aftermath of September 11th, and the crash of Flight 587.

Beyond the street, Mike has continued serving through volunteer firefighting, EMS education, and leadership development — passing decades of experience on to the next generation.
