This week on Mic’d In New Haven, it’s another volume of The Best of The Bravest: Interviews with The FDNY’s Elite — and my guest is retired FDNY Captain Ciro Napolitano.

Appointed in August of 1986, Ciro began his career in Ladder 118 before assignments to Engine 250 and Engine 84. Over nearly four decades on the job, he would rise from firefighter to Lieutenant and eventually Captain, serving in companies throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Promoted to Captain in 2002, Ciro went on to command Engine 1 before spending eight years as Captain of Engine 74 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. His final assignment brought him to Ladder 149, where he remained until reaching the FDNY’s mandatory retirement age of 65.

Nearly 40 years. Three different ranks. And a career spanning generations of change within the New York City Fire Department.
