This week on Mic’d In New Haven, it’s another installment of The E-Men: Inside The Emergency Service Unit — and my guest is retired Port Authority Police Department Emergency Service Unit Sergeant Dan Dias.

Dan’s career in emergency services began in 1994 as an EMT with McCabe Ambulance Service in Bayonne, New Jersey, while also serving as a dispatcher with the Bayonne Police Department.

In 2000, he entered law enforcement as a New Jersey State Trooper before joining the Port Authority Police Department in 2002, serving at the Holland Tunnel and PATH commands.

But in 2005, Dan would find his home in one of the department’s most specialized assignments: the Emergency Service Unit.

For the next 18 years, he would respond to some of the most demanding tactical, rescue, and medical emergencies in the Port Authority’s jurisdiction, eventually being promoted to Sergeant in 2012 and taking on the responsibilities of supervising Emergency Service personnel.

After retiring in 2023, Dan continued sharing his knowledge as an instructor in lifesaving medical techniques and active-threat preparedness.

From the ambulance to the dispatch console, from the New Jersey State Police to nearly two decades in the Port Authority Police Emergency Service Unit — we’re talking about a career dedicated to answering the call when lives are on the line.

That’s retired PAPD Emergency Service Unit Sergeant Dan Dias, on The E-Men: Inside The Emergency Service Unit — only on the Mic’d In New Haven Podcast.
