This week on Mic’d In New Haven, it’s another volume of The Best of The Bravest: Interviews with The FDNY’s Elite — and my guest is retired FDNY Captain Paul Brown.

A third-generation firefighter and one of 11 members of his family to serve in the FDNY, Paul was appointed in 1989 and spent his career in engine and ladder companies across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens before rising through the ranks to Captain.

As a member of the FDNY Incident Management Team, his service also took him far beyond New York City, deploying to major wildfires and natural disasters across the country. And for more than two decades, he’s brought those experiences into executive leadership education, teaching lessons in crisis management, resilience, organizational change, and high-stakes decision-making.

Now, he’s co-authored Rising from Ground Zero: The FDNY’s Path Through the Crisis of 9/11 to Transformation — examining how the department endured unimaginable loss on September 11th and transformed in the years that followed.
