This week on Mic’d In New Haven, my guest is retired NYPD Chief of Patrol Wilbur Chapman — whose career in New York City law enforcement and public service spans decades.
Beginning as a Police Trainee in 1968 and becoming a Police Officer the following year, Chief Chapman steadily rose through the NYPD’s supervisory and command ranks, leading precincts, divisions, and patrol boroughs before reaching one of the highest uniformed positions in the department when he was appointed Chief of Patrol in 1995.
And his service to New York City didn’t end with his retirement from the uniformed ranks. Chapman went on to serve as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation before returning to the NYPD in 2007 as Deputy Commissioner of Training.
From policing the streets of New York during one of the city’s most turbulent eras to helping lead and train the nation’s largest police department — this is a career spanning generations of change in New York City.
That’s retired NYPD Chief of Patrol Wilbur Chapman, on the Mic’d In New Haven Podcast.
