This week on Mic’d In New Haven, it’s another volume of The Best of The Bravest: Interviews with The FDNY’s Elite — and my guest is retired FDNY Lieutenant David Beatty.

Dave’s career in public safety began with the NYPD, where he served in Brooklyn’s Transit Division Task Force and later Transit District 34 in Coney Island.

On September 11, 2001, Dave was working a day tour when the terrorist attacks unfolded. After remaining on duty for 24 hours, he headed directly to Ground Zero, joining the recovery effort at the World Trade Center site.

Two years later, he traded his police uniform for FDNY bunker gear, graduating from the Fire Academy in 2003 and beginning his firefighting career at Engine 276 in Brooklyn before transferring across the floor to Ladder 156.

In 2009, Dave moved to the Bronx, joining Ladder 38, where he would spend the next chapter of his career.

Promoted to Lieutenant in September 2021, he served in Brooklyn’s 11th Division before returning to the Bronx at Ladder 53, where he would ultimately finish his career.

From patrolling New York City’s subway system to working the recovery effort at Ground Zero, and from the firehouses of Brooklyn to the Bronx — we’re talking about a career spent serving New Yorkers in two of the city’s most demanding uniformed services.

That’s retired FDNY Lieutenant David Beatty, on The Best of The Bravest: Interviews with The FDNY’s Elite — only on the Mic’d In New Haven Podcast.
