In Episode 422 of Mic’d In New Haven, retired NYPD veteran Mike Renna shares the incredible story of a near-fatal car accident in 2009 and the officers who helped save his life.
Traveling at highway speed during a medical emergency, Renna suffered a catastrophic crash that by all accounts he should not have survived. The injuries were severe, requiring hundreds of stitches and extensive recovery.
But fate had an incredible twist in store.
The first officers to arrive on scene were former students Renna had trained during his years as an instructor in NYPD Special Weapons. Among them was ESU veteran Dan Coan. Recognizing their former instructor, they quickly packaged and treated him, ensuring he made it to the hospital alive.
Years earlier, Renna had taught them. On that day, they returned the favor in the most profound way possible.
