New Haven Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Ryan reflects on more than two decades in a profession he still considers a blessing.
From getting his feet wet early in his career, to eventually earning the opportunity to serve in the city where he wanted to be, Ryan looks back with gratitude on the path that brought him to New Haven.
There were plenty of long days along the way — countless overtime tours, stretches of working nine, ten, or eleven days, and the sacrifices that naturally come with building a career in the fire service.
But after 22 years, Ryan says something that perhaps means more than any rank or title:
He still enjoys coming to work.
